Not everyone is affable. Some of us find it really hard to be around people. Especially, people with lower intelligence.
I detest people. And I am not the only one in the world who does.
People like me find it hard to socialize. We can’t be with people.
So, what do we do? We master ‘The Art Of Social Engineering‘.
Because, Social Interaction is hard!
Well, not all of us. Only those who are more inclined towards computers. Especially, Hacking!
Which most of us usually are.
Social engineering is the psychological manipulation of people into performing actions or divulging confidential information.
We use tools to extract information about the potential target. Then, we find a loophole. And from there, it is as easy as eating a piece of pie.
One of the most common example of Social Engineering is ‘Phishing’.
Phishing attacks are used to trick victims into providing confidential information. A few examples include; creating a replica of facebook page or hooking a certain IP address so that any and all data that flows through can be recorded by the attacker.
All Social Engineering Techniques rely on one important fact; Gaining Information.
Information like; phone number, email-id, work place, location, IP address, service provider, family history, friends, regular contacts, etc.
Social Engineering is all about Research, Planning and Execution!
And it is fun.
A bit like stalking. Highly efficient, extreme and detailed way of stalking.

Early on, I thought that social interaction was hard. It’s not. You just need to apply some common sense to it, such as
1. No one is inherently better or worse than you are
2. People deserve respect until they prove otherwise, then move on — actions matter, appearance doesn’t
3. Some people are fun to be around, and they are good for your mindset and health
4. Anger hurts the one who holds the emotion, not the one at whom it is targeted. If someone is a problem, just move on. Karma will settle scores for you.
Which isn’t to say I couldn’t use your skills right now. If you’re really good at this, there’s money to be made, quite legally. People are spending a lot of money to try to do what you probably could do quite easily.

Then you should have reacted to ‘Social Engineering’. Not how I should behave.
Do you really think I am looking for business opportunities on wordpress?

I like your honesty! π I still don’t really get the phishing thing. Guess I don’t try hard enough to get it. :)) I guess I’d like to know what’s fun about it? What’s the goal? Or maybe I don’t want to know. ;)) xoxo

When you do it for the right reasons, ut is fun.
Hackers aren’t always on the wrong side of things.
Some protect your networking experience.
Phishing comes from the term ‘fishing’.
We drop baits; replicas of original pages, etc. where user enter his information assuming it to be legit.

Ok, I think I know of someone who experienced this (entered user/pass unsuspectingly into a third party free “offer”). His account was hacked from it. It cost the company time and money to gain control back… it devastated the person as they felt their private info was violated and their digital holdings maybe gone for good…

Well, that is exactly what some of us apply our skills to prevent.
And that is why it is better to know things than not.

Don’t really need books to know these things.
I learnt all of it the hard way.
